Cactus wins railway order worth over SEK 100 million

The contract for a sub-system to the National Traffic Control System (NTL) runs for eight years with the option of extending for nine years at three-year intervals. The contract also covers development and maintenance of the system. The delivery is a sub-contract to Alstom Transport with the Swedish Transport Administration as the end-customer.

Cactus is a privately-owned company which has grown from 12 employees in 2006 to 70 in 2015. At the end of 2016, Cactus will pass 100 employees. The increase comes from a combination of recruitment and consultancy support.

Top-level Swedish expertise in railways

The National Traffic Control System (NTL) is an important part of the Swedish Transport Administration’s project to improve punctuality, customer communication and capacity utilisation in the rail network all over Sweden. Cactus’s engagement is part of the roll-out of ICONIS, the new traffic control system from Alstom Transport.

“Cactus complements our offering very well and has met the extensive technical criteria laid down in the requirements specifications,” says Per Öster, CEO of Alstom Transport in the Nordic region.

“Our long experience of building critical railway systems in an environment characterised by innovation and a willingness to listen makes us an attractive partner,” says Fredrik Bergström, CEO of Cactus.

More about Cactus

Every day, our systems manage and optimise operations for more than 100 infrastructure owners of socially critical functions. This includes more than 50% of Sweden’s drinking water supplies.

Cactus delivered the first railway system to Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL) in the early 1990s. It customers include both Nordic infrastructure owners (SL, the Swedish Transport Administration and Lokaltog) and global rail operators.

There are also good prospects for the pilot systems that Cactus has been developing since 2008. The Cactus control system is an integral part of Marksystem 11 which is being used to modernise the Swedish signalling systems based on ERTMS L2 and conventional technology.

The cactus was our inspiration when we named our company. It lives and thrives in harsh environments that demand flexibility, development and sustainability. Just like us and our systems.
